Jury frees girl who shot and killed Marine
Dorothy Pegran, on trial for the murder of Marine Philip Tulley, was acquitted by a four hour jury verdict in Newcastle Pennsylvania. She testified that Tulley attacked her repeatedly and she killed him in self defense. Witnesses described the shooting after she had already shot him in his bedroom. Spectators cheered as the verdict was announced and Pegran claimed the sky ring she wore gave her acquittal. Lawyers were paid by certified checks from Pittsburgh and no source disclosed who covered the girl's expenses.
