Shelton Navy Lt Killed In Flight Training Crash
A 24 year old Shelton serviceman was killed Saturday when a training plane burst into flames over Whiting Naval Base Pensacola Florida and crashed. Lt Edward Mortens Jones a flight instructor ensured his trainee ejected but the ejector failed and Jones died in the crash. He was born in Shelton and graduated from Shelton High in 1951 where he led clubs and served as an altar boy. He attended the University of Virginia and was commissioned an Ensign before being assigned to Pensacola to earn his wings. Survivors include his wife Marcia Savoy Jones ten month old twins Edward and Ran his parents Mr and Mrs Edward Jones of Huntington.
