Charles Prior Sr Dies Here at Age 74
Charles Edward Prior Sr., prominent Hartford banker, died yesterday afternoon at 5 30 at the home of his son Charles Edward Prior Jr of 2080 Park avenue. He was seventy one. A Hartford resident most of life he retired to Bridgeport four years ago but spent much time in Hartford. Born Moosup January 24 1856 he began work with Norwich and Worcester Railroad at seventeen then joined Ashland Cotton company Jewett City. In 1883 he joined Jewett City Savings bank as secretary treasurer for 11 years. In 1895 he became assistant treasurer of Security Trust company Hartford and in 1896 was elected secretary treasurer later vice president until retirement in 1923. At death he was director of Hartford National Bank and Trust company trustee of State Savings bank and Hartford treasurer of Connecticut Baptist Convention.
