Five Connecticut towns threatened with court action over sewage

Three Naugatuck Valley communities plus two others face court action if they do not begin sewage treatment projects to curb river pollution. The State Water Commission warned Hartford Shelton New London and Norwich are delinquent, must show progress or the attorney general will sue. Four towns received praise for recent plant projects including Winsted Naugatuck Stratford and Norwalk. Hamilton Standard Propeller Division is building an industrial waste plant at Bradley Field. Edward J. McDonough of Hartford was re-elected chairman.

Dr Jakob Appointed to Iran School Post

Norwalk June 20 AP Dr Philip Jakob retired Norwalk schools superintendent was named coordinator of Iran’s school systems by the State Department after Iran requested a competent administrator. A Yale graduate with a New York University doctorate, Jakob led Norwalk High as principal before becoming superintendent in 1982 and retiring in 1949. He plans to stay about four months in Iran.
