Vote delayed on labor bill amid heated Senate debate

The Senate postponed a vote on the labor union reform measure after rejecting a Republican bid to limit use of union dues for campaigns. An amendment by Potter to restrict dues diversions failed 61 to 30, as four days of debate continued. The chamber adjourned for noon tomorrow with numerous amendments still pending. An ancillary provision requiring non communist affidavits by employers and union officials passed 6 to 20, though President Eisenhower had urged abolishing the rule. Mundt and Eastland argued for broadening the affidavit requirement rather than scrapping it. Continued coverage on page nine.
