Lack of Individuality in Education Deplores Speech
Dr Payson Smith Massachusetts educator told a Stratfield Chamber of Commerce luncheon that American education overreaches standardization. He urged fundamental arithmetic preps in elementary grades, broader access to arts and music, and methods that preserve individuality. He warned against forcing pupils to fit a grade and urged tailored study to build real understanding. He criticized teachers and parents for prioritizing ease over work, and urged education to foster initiative and Americanization.
