Reds Battle for Chorwon Hill Ends in Allied Gain

US 45th Division troops fought a fierce night and dawn assault for a hill west of Chorwon on the western front in Korea. Allied air and artillery fire supported infantry as they secured the knob after heavy fighting and reported substantial Chinese casualties.

Girl Awarded 22000 Settlement In Auto Injury Case

A Superior court jury trial ended with a settlement in which Dr Melvin R Davis paid 22000 to 18 year old Kathleen Mintell of 5 Armstrong Place for injuries from a Central Avenue auto collision October 6 1949. Mintell a Warren Harding High School student later worked in a Bridgeport store office. attorney Louis Stein represented Mintell and William L Hadden for Dr Davis. Probate court must approve the settlement since Mintell was a minor.

Connecticut Democrats settle 22 delegate slate in Hartford county

In Hartford county a party conference endorsed A A Ribicoff and Thomas J Dodd for district delegates with full votes and Mayor John L Sullivan as delegate at large with a half vote. Town Chairman John P Kelly withdrew to preserve harmony. His wife and two others will serve as alternates.

Newark Airport Reopens With New Flight Rules

The Port of New York Authority votes to reopen Newark airport at 12:01 a.m. next Monday with strict runway bans and weather minimums. Koje Island POWs Begin Transfer from Tough Camp 66

At Koje Island Korea prisoners from compounds 66 and 60 began moving to smaller enclosures under Allied discipline. 2,700 officers and 650 NCOs formed a column to 500-man compounds while North Korean leaders sang and raised fists in a communist salute. Boatner noted a North Korean flag presented during the transfer and promised to return it if deserved. Fires burned in compound 66.

Bomber Crashes in Pacific Sea Off Kwajalein

An Air Force B-29 crashed 75 miles west of Kwajalein in the Central Pacific at 2 49 p m Hawaiian time. One survivor was sighted in a life raft as rescue efforts began involving an Air Force crash boat and a Navy Albatross seaplane.
