Vinland Sunk by German Sub Near Virginia Coast
The Norwegian steamship Vinland, 1,193 tons, was bombed and sunk by a submarine about 65 miles off the Virginia coast at six p m on June 5. All crew members, Swedes and Norwegians, were rescued and landed at Cape May New Jersey. The destroyer picked up the survivors. the vessel carried a cargo of sugar and was owned by O and A Irgens of Bergen.

William A. MacDonald aged 21, son of John and Margaret Kiernan MacDonald, of 179 De Kalb Ave, died at Bridgeport Hospital from tetanus after sustaining a nail injury at the Torepde Rent company yard. Man Badly Hurt In Auto Crash In Fairfield
Steve Martin of Castle Park Fairfield lies in Bridgeport hospital with a fractured right leg bruised right arm and possible internal injuries after being struck by a car driven by Milton Lisbona of 648 State Street at 10 10 oclock last night near Halland and Fairfield Avenues. Lisbona said Martin crossed in front of him and that Martin appeared intoxicated police reported about a half gallon of liquor found on the injured man. He was rushed to Bridgeport hospital by emergency ambulance. Lisbona was not held.
