US approves $85 million in auto making gear exports to Soviet Union
The Commerce Department says licenses were issued for about 85 million dollars worth of equipment for manufacturing cars and trucks in the Soviet Union. Officials say no major policy shift is involved, despite earlier cautions that exports might not be in national interest. Some applications dated nearly two years. The move follows a review of strategic export controls and relates to broader policy signaling ahead of a forthcoming list on goods to China.
