Texas voters prefer Mayfield over Blanton in Senate bid
Washington June 3 The Daily Mirror surveys Texas politics and argues Congressman Blanton’s extremist style would fail to win broad Texan support. It predicts Earle M Mayfield likely wins the Senate race, noting Texas’ wealth and self regard, while praising the current Senator as an average, capable representative. The piece suggests Blanton’s best slot is the House where he faces strong procedural barriers and rivals. It remarks on nuisance value of past political figures and ends by noting the desirability of reappointing Hoover and Mellon.
