Opposing Bankers Clash On Black Rock Bank Petition
A Bridgeport hearing on a proposed Black Rock bank reveals strong opposition from West Side Bank and Fairfield Trust, with concerns over local business impact, geographic limits, and foreign-depositor risk. Proponents argue council-like growth, population boost, and community thrift justify a new institution.

Bank Charter Debate Hinges on Savings Interest
The article argues that a new bank could not attract savings deposits unless it offered 4 percent interest, a rate higher than recent gains and similar to mutual banks. It contends only well funded banks with surplus and past favorable investments can sustain such returns. The conclusion is that the charter should be declined for the welfare of existing banks.
