Four U S Submarines Missing Off Lower California

Four submarines left Los Angeles Tuesday for Hampton Roads as part of a flotilla of 12 slated for decommissioning and were reported missing off the Lower California coast south of Easeda. The L-5 L-6 L-7 and L-8, built at Long Beach, were in convoy with eight others. signals and aid attempts described by Captain Sheriden and the Beaver tender are noted, but the base had no clear explanation for the disappearances.

Mayor to Recommend City Purchase of Wharf Dock

S-48 Submarine To Resume Trials In Sound

Sunk last December the submarine S-48 of the S serier boats, rebuilt at Seaview Avenue plant, will begin trials Monday under Captain Barnett. The same crew will test the craft for a 62 hour endurance run before turnover to the government, following extensive repairs after the December crash dive and salvage.

Prominent East Side Drug Store Proprietor Dead

Willan Hamilton, longtime proprietor of the Hammon pharmacy at 233 Noble Avenue since 1922, died yesterday at his home Wear Avenue after months of illness. Born October 8, 1846, he earlier worked in various drug and leather trades, married Catherine Ferris in 1895, and leaves widow, two sons Alexander and William Jr, and daughter Elizabeth. He held many fraternal memberships and enjoyed baseball, heating, and fishing. Burial plans are pending at Mount Auburn Cemetery.

Barge Captain Injured After Violent Storm Strikes Sound
