Herman Regains World Title From Lynch in 13 Rounds

Jitney Run Back After Two Hour City Conference

After a secret two hour meeting in Mayor Wilsons office with Superintendent Flanagan and other officials, jitney buses were allowed to continue running for the present. Police halted unpermitted lines during the session, then a messenger urged resumption. Traffic near Main and Jenny grew chaotic as buses resumed, drawing protests from women and public glare as observers waited for further action.

Time Limit for Special Tax Up July 31

Jitneys Warned to Surrender P S Markers

Hartford July 4 State police will arrest jitneys operating under obsolete P S markers after Monday unless local officials take them in hand. Motor Vehicle Department and Commissioner Stoeckel urge surrender of markers with a possible license revocation and a $4 rebate on surrendered markers.

Confessions Admitted in 1919 World Series Case

Chicago court rules that Tory confessions by Eadie Creotte Claude Williams and Jos Jackson may be used as evidence in the baseball trial but only against the confessing individuals. Two Women Autoists Injured In Seaside Crash

Two women struck by a passing car while repairing their own vehicle near Seaside were admitted to St Vincent's Hospital in severe shock. Fairfield farmer and aide attack hired man in home

In Fairfield last Saturday night a farmer and an aide trapped a hired man and a neighbor in a room armed with knives a revolver and bludgeons. The assailants beat the man and robbed him of 90 dollars before fleeing, with tires slashed to elude pursuit. Police did not arrest Tony Rava and Louis Zglombicki pending further inquiry.

Three Prisoners Escape From Litchfield County Jail

Three inmates escaped from the Litchfield County jail early today. Prisoners Robert Bailey Ferdinand Rapp and Charles Murphy led the breakout within the work room as they unlocked a door and cut casings, with 12 to 14 others implicated but not joining. The fugitives, bound for Massachusetts, were reported by deputies as the alarm was raised after a ten minute delay.

Lighted cigarette spurs fire that destroys Cunard liner Mauretania

Southampton July 25 A cigarette spark from an upholstery worker sparked a blaze aboard the Cunard liner Mauretania. Eight hundred crew and firemen battled the flames as water pumps and hoses struggled to reach the fire through open port holes. The ship suffered extensive damage across three decks and faced possible destruction while fire brigades fought to control the blaze.

Stonington Voters Turn Down Female Burgesses

Stonington Conn July 28 three women candidates for Burgesses, nominated by the Republicans, were defeated by their male Democratic opponents by an average of party votes each in the Borough election today. Pearl Sperry Jr Taken in Federal Raid on Hostelry

New Haven reports federal agents and local police raided a small hotel run by Pearl Sperry Jr. One man was arrested in a Saturday roundup of alleged smugglers. The raid seized nearly a truckload of manini and bottles of antifreeze. Braxton Masick was also arrested on federal charges alleging violation of the Volaterd act.

Samuel Suasman, 72, of Afount Vernon, N X, died at New Lonston hospital after a Westbrook auto crash Friday. He left behind a wife, five sons, one daughter, eleven grandchildren and a great grand, while en route to a family reunion with his son.

Woman Is Stabbed and Beaten Left in Gutter

Mrs Jennie Roberta a 45 year old resident of 32 Railroad avenue was attacked late last night by an unidentified man on Railroad avenue near Broad street. She suffered a stab wound to the right hand and contusions along with hysteria and was treated at Emergency hospital by Dr Alfred Kornhiut who gave four stitches. She was later removed to her home in the tramsal wagons and told police she did not know her assailant. She has a reputation as an old timer with prior drunkenness arrests.
