Washington July 20 Navy aviation gains senior officers as promotion board recommendations await Congress. W A Moffett and N E Irwin, already rear admirals, head a list including Captains Upham Reeves Butler and Rabby chosen for promotion to rear admiral. Reeves Butler Rabby are observers or aviators with Pensacola links and Saratoga duties.
One hundred physicians gathered at a Bridgeport country club for a day of baseball tennis golf horseshoes and bridge. Dr. T L Ells won the Leverty cup with a 76 net. Dr. Bl friendly rival J Murray Johnson tied for second. Dr. Irving Nettleton won horse shoe pitching. St. Vincent’s beat Bridgeport Hospital 20 19 in a baseball protest filed. numerous doctors participated across events.
The Public Utilities Commission approved a merger of Eastern Connecticut Power, Lyme Electric Power, Danielson and Putnam Gas and Electric into Eastern Connecticut Power after a morning Capitol hearing. A separate petition by Eastern Connecticut Power to buy more stock in the other three was also approved.
CHURCH HILL MD July 20 A firemen carnival at Centreville saved this town from a major blaze that swept one side of the business district. Loss was estimated at 200000 as the town hall the local bank and several stores and homes stalled the flames. Firefighters rushed from the parade to battle the fire using water pumped from a mill stream to confine the blaze to one block.
Washington July 20 Associated Press reports the United States Marine Corps will organize and train the Nicaraguan constabulary. Lt Col E R Beadle, famed for his hard boiled style, will lead the mission. He has Philippine and Haiti service, Spanish fluency, and a 1920 War Department citation for excellent service in troop training.
Judge Booth of the Superior Court dissolves a temporary injunction preventing the erection of a five car garage at 82 Shelton Street adjoining St Johns Church in Bridgeport. He rules the garage is not a nuisance per se and notes no opportunity to assess reasonableness of use, confirming the injunction dissolution.
