Statue to Marquette marks landing site in Chicago
Reports from Chicago on July 20 describe a bronze statue unveiling of Father Marquette with a cross, Louis Joliet, and an Argonaut Indian at the Chicago river site where his cabin lay. Sculptor Herman A. MacNeill noted Native American symbolism and prayers while highlighting Marquette’s spiritual aim tied to the recent Eucharistic Congress.
