State Chairman Accused In U S Senate Gassing

Providence July 18 Governor William S Flynn said affidavits before the Attorney General named William C Pelkey, Republican state committee chairman, as having provided and directed the placing of a gas bomb that broke a Democratic filibuster in the Rhode Island Senate on June 19. The affidavits, from Thomas Lally and Matthew J McGovern, describe Pelkey as organizing guards for Republicans and passing the device through John Toomey of Johnston and Thomas J McGauley, reading clerk of the House, who allegedly refused to place it himself. Governor Flynn said he went to New York to obtain the affidavits due to lack of investigators.

British Aviator Found After Two Days of Search
