Laundry Ras Raid Seizes Two Brothers in Gambling Bust

Police raided the Howard Laundry on Howard Avenue seizing two brothers Louis Galbiscek and Elmer Galbiscek amid a gaming operation. Detectives recovered horse betting numbers and baseball pool slips. Paul Pelton 19 of Troy was captured in a wooded area after state police followed a horse trail. He allegedly armed with a hatchet and knife considered killing his three young daughters before firing at them, killing the three children. He reportedly confessed to the crime to authorities.

Powder flare at Rem-Arms injures no one

A small quantity of gunpowder used in shotgun shell loading at Remington Arms ignited last night on the fourth floor of Building 341. The flash was seen citywide as a reservoir powder in a roof vent ignited. no injuries were reported, about 50 workers evacuated as firefighters extinguished a blaze around the loading machine and roof vent.

Parkway litter drive aims to enlist public aid

New York July 16 The Merritt Parkway commission opened a campaign to curb litter with Gov. Abraham Ribicoff and industry reps at a University Club dinner. A conference with Keep America Beautiful executive VP John Soltmann and State Highway Commissioner Newman Graves will study measures used elsewhere. The effort considers litter bags at toll stations and disposal zones. The governor cited Connecticut costs of 210000 yearly and noted highway litter links to accidents and injuries. He urged decency and government efficiency and praised broad cooperation.

Grews Restore 4 Rail Service Between Bridgeport and New York

The New Haven line returned to full operation between Bridgeport and New York at 4 20 p m after the fourth track reopened following a derailment that tied up 11 of 80 cars. A 30 mile per hour limit remains through the damaged yard as crews finish repairs and officials seek a cause.
