The Y W C A invites out of town women and girls to participate as corresponding members. The change removes the need to state where one lives and aims to expand the national and international women movement. First invitation letters will be mailed soon, including a subscription to the Woman's Press and access to extensive materials for members.
The letters recount a Sunday with Syhan Gopal Mukerji and his wife in the Litchfield Hills amid lecture tours and hopes for East West cooperation. Miss Ethel Hull, recently announcing her engagement to Sidney H. Chittenger, received a surprise shower at her Stratfield home. Japanese lanterns lit the lawn while a buffet luncheon was served. Guests included Catherine Brown Clotilde Gaynor Margaret Daley Harriet Allen Ethel Nielsen of Southport Dorothy Adams Westport and others from nearby towns.
Misa Vivian Sherwood celebrated her fourteenth birthday with a home party attended by over 40 guests from New Haven Fairfield Norwalk and Milford. The luncheons room featured pastel decor a Jack Horner pie centerpiece and ribbons tying gifts to each place setting. Guests received many beautiful gifts and garlands with simple favors on the table.
More than 200 children with their parents from the Devon church Sunday school journeyed to this city by special car yesterday for the annual picnic held in Beardsley Park. Games were played during the morning and many races participated. Many of the children, not familiar with the Park made a thorough inspection of the place. Leaving the grounds about 6:30 o'clock, the picnickers returned home.
Francesca Garibaldi, widow of Italy’s great hero, dies at 70 in Cagliari Italy. A Piedmontese native, she moved to Caprera in 1867 as a nurse to Garibaldi’s grandchildren and later married him after his annulment from the Marchioness Balmonxi.
Mr and Mrs William Read of Tampa announce the birth of their son William Read Jr on July 3. Mrs Read formerly Miss Ina Graham of 757 Wood Avenue and a Bridgeport hospital training school graduate class of 1916. The fall program for course 201 in 103-21 by Professor Lyon Phelps at United Church is announced. Brown ing is to be the subject with lectures covering art literature and theatre. Sessions run Mondays from October to May with titles including The Lost Leader and A Pretty Woman among many classic works. The program concludes with a lecture on A Srowning Pilgrimage in Italy to be held at High School on May 6 at 8 p.m.
