Leaders meet at Downing Street in prayerful gesture

English and Irish leaders Lloyd George and Eamon de Valera met in Downing Street for more than two hours to discuss Britain's role at a conference with Ulster representatives. The private talks ended amiably with a joint communique in view. Rosary and hymns accompanied prayers as Irish and English participants sought unity ahead of the talks. An English Archbishop urged all present to attend the conference.

Secretary Weeks said he would seek Congress authority to accept Henry Ford's proposal to acquire the government nitrate plant at Muscle Shoals Alabama.
