RAF veteran admits writing feared A bomb letter to Soviet

Willam Stanley Whales aged 34 an Ipswich farm worker and ex RAF airman admitted he wrote the alleged A bomb threat to the Soviet Embassy and said the Russians altered the meaning by omitting his grievances against the RAF. Police said the case requires proper investigation and further facts from authorities.

A fire swept the rear of Superior Screw Machine Co. at 593 Knowlton Street near the Pequonnock river, damaging 12 automatic screw machines after a rubbish fire spread. Fire units from No. 66, Barnum and Central stations fought the blaze from 10:18 to 10:44 AM as festival crowds gathered nearby.

Air Force Globemaster Down In Pacific Ocean

A C124 Globemaster crashed in the mid Pacific about 160 miles northeast of Johnston Island during a Honolulu to Wake Island flight. Ten crewmen were aboard. three were rescued after being found clinging to a raft, one body sighted, five unaccounted. Heat Parade Illnesses Strain Fairfield Parade Crowd

Fireworks Parade Dazzles Bridgeport as City Celebrates

A sweeping Fourth of July parade through Bridgeport drew about 275000 spectators on a sunny day.
