Paris July 4 The American Ambassador Hugh Wallace told the Fourth of July dinner of the American Chamber of Commerce that the League of Nations is born to live and hopes America will join in due season He stressed the longtime friendship between France and the United States and urged stronger alliance as world boundaries change and new orders arise with continued ties between the two nations shown through shared history and trials
Postmaster Philip Troup of New Haven urged Bridgeport's foreign born citizens to avoid excess pleasure as he spoke at Beardsley Park during Independence Day events hosted by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. The sweltering crowd heard patriotic remarks and a likeminded program featuring a band concert, an opening welcome, and collaboration with local groups.

Dayton dispatch says William Stephenson, nine, is held on murder charges after the body of Henry Blevins, also nine, was found in a pond near Hershey with a broken neck. Stephenson allegedly admitted breaking the neck with an iron coupling bar following an argument while the boys swam yesterday afternoon.
North Adams Ma July 4 Joseph Thomas racing auto driver died today when his car crashed through a fence on the west turn at the fairgrounds. Thomas from Hyde Park Boston had just begun his first race as a driver and had served as an officer in the aircraft production division during the war.

A powerful typhoon struck Manila causing heavy damage across the city and surrounding areas. The outage left the city in darkness as houses were unroofed and several ships were driven ashore while streetcar service was paralyzed.

In Bridgeport, Louis Charmelin, friend of Antonio Countte, was linked to Countte's death after Countte was found dead at his home. A city precinct inquiry followed. Two Bridgeport men crashed on the Newark Turnpike injuring several, with a driver and passengers sustaining various injuries and a local hospital treating a severe arm wound and scalp laceration.
Three fires on a holiday night were caused by fireworks. An automobile on State Street owned by Max Firemen suffered extensive damage. A stand on Main Street used for selling fireworks was torched, owned by A Tanbanna, with about 100 dollars in losses. A small blaze at 1809 Fairfield Avenue caused minor damage. Fire, police, and emergency hospital teams handled the incidents.
Seven people drowned at beaches near New York as sweltering heat drove crowds to shore. A man, overwhelmed by heat, died by his own hand in Central Park reservoir. Prostration deaths in the city were reported, with many taken to hospitals. Crowds flocked to Cow Island and nearby resorts as temperatures hit 93 degrees, the hottest July day in years according to the Weather Bureau.
