Pact Ratified At ASC Unton By Local 877

About 360 members of Local 877 United Auto Workers ratified a one year contract with American Standard Controls. The agreement improves grievance and seniority provisions, raises wages by about three percent with quarterly progression and a 25 cent night shift premium, and adds two full union shops. Aerialist Tragedy Hits Wal lendas During Shrine Circus

In Detroit at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum two Wallendas, Richard Faughan and Dieter Scheep, died after a 50 foot fall from a high wire as seven or eight aerialists formed a human pyramid. Roberts Wins Texas Special House Seat After Rayburn

Ray Roberts defeats R C Slagle Jr. in a Texas special election to succeed the late Sam Rayburn. With most votes counted Roberts leads 16 047 to 13 302. Slagle concedes. Roberts plans to go to Washington and be sworn in next Monday.

Officers Named by United Fund in Eastern Fairfield County

Raymond J. O Connor was elected president of the United Fund of Eastern Fairfield County for 1962 at the seventh annual meeting attended by about 330 at the Stratfield hotel. He succeeds E P Bullard and heads a slate including Lewis A Shea Lawrence A Dunn and Arthur W Warner as vice presidents William L Lashar treasurer William T Minor assistant treasurer and Bernard H Trager secretary. Seven silver trophy awards were given for the October drive which netted 31 380 142 or nearly 97 percent, the second largest in the Greater Bridgeport area. Frigid Weather Drops Mercury to 15 Degrees Here

A cold wave sent the mercury to 15 degrees as strong winds of 20 to 55 mph swept the area. A brief snow squall hit after 2 pm with a 33 mph gust.
