Arkansas Diamonds: 1918 Yield and Large Rough Found
In 1918 the Arkansas diamond mine yielded stones of 17.85 and 11 carats. Diamonds lose about 60 percent of weight when cut, so the larger stone could yield a gem near eight carats worth about 4000 dollars if color and brilliancy are good. Only two larger US diamonds have been found, including a 99.75 carat rough from Manchester Virginia in 1855 and a 21.75 carat rough found in Wisconsin in 1886.
