Nash Bids On Westport Road Contract
Westport selectmen opened bids for sand and gravel to pave roads. Only two bids arrived from First Selectman Edward C Nash and Joseph McNally, with Nash claiming a slightly lower bid by ten cents. Nash said the bid was placed as an individual, not as a town official, to spur action. Elbert N. Sipperly offered his road roller and scarifier at 25 dollars per day, undercutting prior options. McNally’s bid could replace town equipment with supplier stock, potentially cutting 11,000 dollars from initial investments. Nash expected another local bid before close.
