John Erickson aged 12 and Clifford Erickson aged 10, sons of Mr and Mrs Olaf Erickson of 68 Chestnut street Bethel, drowned while skating on the Bethel reservoir. Younger brother rushed to aid elder and both disappeared beneath the ice. Witness Joseph Todd alerted authorities after a long telephone run. Identification came when a sister found their shoes. Deputies and rescuers struggled through darkness, aided by Bruce Nearing who previously recovered a murder victim, to recover John later and Clifford earlier in the day. Medical examiner authorized removal of the body.

Man Attempts Suicide at Mountain Cove Cemetery
Richard Tikijian of 645 Warren Street tried to die by strangulation with a knotted twine while standing over a grave in Mountain Cove cemetery.
