Stanford doctors report Mike Kasperak on a transplanted heart remains in extremely critical condition after his third major intestinal operation in a week. The spleen was removed to curb further internal bleeding while the heart functioned normally under ongoing transfusions.
Joseph J. Massicotte of Bridgeport was reelected president of the Board of Fire Commissioners for a sixth term at a City Hall meeting where eight fire department members were promoted. Promoted to probationary lieutenant were Lawrence Meehan John Callahan Leroy Newton and Mario Mozza. Elevations to pumper engineer went to Harry Argiannas Primo A Caselli Rank Bended and John D'Ausilio. The oath was administered by Assistant Chief Francis C Chandler.
Cape Kennedy APs reports a recurring mystery power failure during a countdown rehearsal delayed next week's unmanned Apollo moon landing mission. The 16 ton lunar module launch was scheduled for Monday but could not be rescheduled before late next week. A space agency spokesman said a new launch date would be set today.
