Cutters Aid Drifting Barge Off Watch Hill
The salvage barge Chapman with about 10 men aboard was adrift in rough seas off Watch Hill. A 93 foot cutter was sent from New London to assist after radioing for help. The barge, owned by Merritt Chapman and Scott of New York City, had been helping free the Norwegian freighter Lief Viking aground near Walch Hill. Waves reached 10 to 12 feet as winds neared 10 knots.
