Indicted Meier Aide Faces Tax Evasion Case in Hughes Deals
LAS VEGAS AP A federal grand jury indicted John Meier once more on conspiracy and tax evasion charges tied to the sale of mining claims connected to Hughes Tool. The 1969–70 tax evasion counts allege he reported far less income than earned, with profits funneled through a Dutch company and foreign trusts. The case cites transactions involving Meier and associates, including Hatsis Cowley and Kahan, plus a $4.5 million claim sale to Hughes Tool and a $500,000 Swiss bank flow, with alleged false IRS filings and offshore accounts. Meier remains free on bond awaiting arraignment.
