Poisoned Communion Varnish Injures Eight Elders in Grand Rapids
In Grand Rapids Michigan eight elders of the Seventh Reformed church were poisoned at morning service after varnish poured into a commune cup was mistaken for sacramental wine. Two elders are in critical condition. The varnish had been stored near decorating supplies in the cup area. The pastor Rev D A Vantummel had just completed the sermon when the first elder drank. Panic spread as the cup was passed to others and several were taken to hospital.
