The Kiwanis club held its first meeting of the year at the Stratfield hotel with about 75 businessmen present. Fred A. Atwater was inducted as president with standard ceremonies and pledged fearless, co operative leadership. The event supported Commerce plans for a building and loan station and announced a three month national attendance contest titled Bridge to the World.

Court martial named to try draft dodger Bergdoll
New York January court martial panel of five colonels and a major was named to try Grover Cleveland Bergdoll, Philadelphia born heir to Emma Bergdoll. He faces charges of draft evasion for failing to report for military service under the selective draft laws. If found guilty he could receive up to five years and 18 months in prison under peace time regulations reestablished after the war.
