Burnham Elected Tax Board Head as Deficit Looms
William E. Burnham was reelected to a third term as president of the Board of Apportionment and Taxation and to the presidency of the Board of Contract and Supply at reorganizational meetings called by Mayor Behrens. The board, in a 220 minute session, was urged to keep the tax rate down as $165,635.05 in outstanding city bills and judgments were revealed. Contingent funds shrank to about $400 after the treasurer’s request for extra clerical hire until April 1 was approved. Next week’s meeting will seek funding for the Public Works Department.
