Connecticut Governor Urges Centralized Purchasing Plan

In a lengthy inaugural address the governor argues for centralized purchasing to cut costs, favoring economy and efficiency. He warns against new excessive taxation, endorses a Purchase Commissioner, and stresses prudent state funding while preserving private enterprise. Copies of Council Proceedings Ready

City Clerk I P Dunigan has received his full quota of copies of the proceedings of the common council for last year and is ready to supply lawyers and others with copies as long as they last. The supply is limited to 150 copies and the proceedings are ready weeks ahead of the usual time.

Burnham Expected to Be ReelecteD Board President

Mayor Atwater calls Board of Apportionment meeting for Monday at 4 PM to organize. Four new members Anker S Lyhne Robert D Goddard and reappointments W E Burnham and John A Leverty take oath. Expect Burnham to be reelected president. after election, the board adjourns until later in month for auditor report and tax recommendations.

Real Estate Man Appointed Temporary Receiver in Bankruptcy Case

Judge Edwin and Thomas of the United States District Court appointed Marcus Hirsch, a real estate dealer, as temporary receiver of the jewelry business of J. Lang at 1274 Main Street after an involuntary bankruptcy petition by City National Bank and two other creditors totaling 7,807. The bank holds a 9,900 claim, with 6,000 secured. Other petitioners are Charles Levin with 907 and Samuel Schulman with 2,000 claimed for merchandise.

Attorney Stinson to Represent Bridgeport Brass at War Claims Hearing

The Bridgeport Brass Company faces a War Department overpayment claim on war contracts and will be represented in a Washington conference today by Henry La Stinson of New York. Special Assistant United States Attorney General Anderson Ivette will view emission of the claims. company officials will not attend, per General Manager Cal T Diets.

Men’s Bible Class Elects New Leaders at Stratford

The Men’s Bible Class of Newfield Methodist Episcopal Church Stratford completed its organization. Major for the Red Division is Raymond E. Evans with C. H. Emmett as class president and lieutenants B. G. Morgan J. Mc Milan Roy Bight Dudley Clark R. D. Hillebrant. A supper is tonight at 6 45 and Dr Barthelow’s Bible Class president will speak. Next Sunday the group meets at 9 30 with Mr Carlson speaking.
