Wanamaker Heirs Defeat State Suit in Tax Fight
The Wanamaker heirs won a key ruling in Philadelphia as Orphans Court dismissed the state’s attempt to tax an inheritance worth about 800000 for death taxes. The court held a 20 million stock gift to John Wanamaker’s children was a gift not subject to inheritance tax since it occurred before death and Wanamaker survived the transfer. The decision may go to the state supreme court for further resolution.
