Secretary of the Navy Paul Nitze awarded Marine Capt Harvey Curtiss Barnum Jr the Medal of Honor for heroism in Vietnam on December 18, 1965. The Cheshire Connecticut native took command of a rifle company near Ky Phu, aiding the dying commander and continuing the fight despite grave danger.

The Connecticut Association for Children With Learning Disabilities CACLD will present Why Billy Couldn't Learn at its monthly meeting Thursday at 8 15 p m in Norwalk High School East Avenue The film produced for the California Department of Education highlights educational needs of neurologically handicapped children and the program that aids them CACLD leaders urge parents teachers and others involved with such children to attend noting it is the first Connecticut showing and aligns with state laws mandating education for neurologically handicapped students The group founded four years ago sponsors a preschool class in Stamford and works to establish testing centers regional services and teacher training for children with learning disabilities

Catholic press role shrinking in mass communications

Mr Walsh says the Catholic press now supplements secular reporting in religion. He cites sensational Catholic papers and ecumenism as factors lowering prestige and notes the lack of Catholic social scientists and theologians contributing commentary. Without filling the moral and intellectual gap, Catholic influence in communications will keep diminishing.
