Federal agents probe New York munitions seizure

Federal agents and local police continued the probe into a large cache of hand grenades, cartridges, rifles, and a machine gun found last night in a West Bit street lodging house basement. Proprietor Joseph O Byrene and Edward Hoey were jailed on $8500 bonds for examination on March 1, with authorities unsure of other suspects. Hoey said two men hired him to move explosives from Wyckoff New Jersey. Investigators opened cases revealing grenades and ammunition matching rifles and machine guns. Officials say the stash could devastate a city section and may be linked to shipments abroad. No maker names appeared on packing, hindering leads.
