Johnson Seeks Ike Reunion Amid Vietnam War Tour Windup

In Palm Desert Johnson met Dwight D. Eisenhower as he winds down a national tour. He asserted the 525,000 troop ceiling in Vietnam would be raised if needed and promised the enemy cannot break U.S. will. The President was joined by Lt. Gen. Lewis W. Walt and adviser Walt Rostow for a briefing on the war effort.

200 S Viet Politicians Form an Anti Red Front

In Saigon more than 200 South Vietnamese politicians gathered Sunday to form an anti Communist front. Organized by supporters of Vice President Ky the meeting drew figures who had previously vowed to remove Ky and Thieu from power. Leading speakers urged unity among nationalist groups against coordinated communist attacks. Former Premier Tran Van Huong former Chief of State Phan Khac Suu and Ha Thue Ky headed the gathering. Suu was elected chairman of the anti government front of defeat.

City Budget Up 2.1 Mills To 38.6 Million

Dr. E. J. Lynch Dies Pioneer in TB Treatment

Dr. Edward J. Lynch 83 former Laurel Heights Shelton administrator and medical director died Sunday at Yale New Haven Hospital after a stroke. A Portland native he led Laurel Heights 1916 1954 later taught at Yale Medical School and served as consultant at Bridgeport Griffin Derby and St Raphael’s hospitals. Services are Wednesday in Shelton with a requiem Mass and burial in Portland.

Woman Theatre Manager Robbed by Two Armed Men

A 43 year old theater manager Rose Mary Lugris of Shelton was robbed at gunpoint of $700 and jewelry by two armed men after stopping for a red light at Huntington turnpike and Broadbridge avenue. The assailants fled in a car after bumping her vehicle and asking to see insurance and registration. Det. Costello and others reported the incident occurred last night around 9 o'clock as she headed home.

City Man Found Frozen to Death In a Parked Car

A 54 year old man identified as Thaddes W Artis of 390 Olive Street was found dead in his car from exposure to cold. He likely died in the vehicle two days earlier. Detectives said the body was in the rear seat of the car behind his house and was found by tenants who notified police. The body was taken to Godfrey and Conway Funeral Home per Dr. Molnar while relatives were located.
