Burned at Sprague man in critical condition

Governor Smith aged 37 of 45 River Street remains in critical condition at Barkly Hospital after a flash fire at the Sprague Meter Company. Assistant Fire Chief John Gleason says Smith was near a paint spray booth when the blaze started and the cause has not been determined.

Snatco Sets New Rate Plan With Area Reclassifications

Snatco accepts a rates decision proposing reclassifying exchanges into 10 groups and moving Bridgeport to a higher group while Thompsonville and Windsor Locks shift to group 4. The plan extends certain rate areas and replaces the daily guarantee with semi public telephone service.

Five Injured in Milford Two Car Crash Near Woodmont

Milford February 18 five persons were injured in a two car collision on Rose's Mill road near Woodmont road shortly before 12 30 PM. James Seren 29 of Rose's Mill road suffered severe lacerations while Nicholas Bukov esky 41 was injured along with four others including George Chirsky 48 Helen Rako vesky 41 and Patricia Rako vesky 1 and a child. The crash happened on a snow covered bridge over Rose's Mill pond. All injured were taken to Milford hospital by Chamberlain ambulance. Patrolman Stephen Rowe assisted investigation. Sergeant Walker Mankowile and Patrolman William Shultis said Mr Seren will be arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated after release.

Socialist Carnival Held In Havana

Offshore from Key West, Cubans celebrated Cuba's first socialist carnival as shortages and problems persisted. Fire destroys bungalow as Grove fires spread

The Fire department received an alarm at 12 10 AM for a blaze on Bonnett Street. Within minutes a second fire was reported on Fyiphuld Avenue. Two stories frame cottages in the Bridgeport area were destroyed. Burial plans and a Mass of requiem were noted as investigators look into the suspicious fires. Mrs Ferris A Stevens and Miss Ella Fenton are among survivors.

Ex-State Sen Laing Reported Missing in Windsor

Former state senator Philip P. Laing, an insurance executive, was reported missing by Windsor police deputy chief James B. Mucky Jr. He had not been seen since Jan 2B, with few details released.
