Playing Collins Killed by Cave in Barnesboro

Thirteen year old Frank Grankowsky died after being caught under rock and dirt in an abandoned mine he explored with companions in Barnesboro Fenn on February 18. Companions escaped and summoned rescuers who dug for hours until his body was recovered.

Hunger Strike Keeps Mrs Budlong a Voluntary Prisoner

Seven Chinese were arrested at midnight and held on gambling charges after detectives of the Vice Squad led by Sergeant William K. Foster broke up their alleged gambling den behind a store. Joel Deu of 75 State Street was named keeper. Leong Hong Young You and Leong Wong, all from 75 State Street, were released on bonds. City of Taunton Breaks Her Shaft at City Island

The steamship City of Taunton traveling from New York to Bridgeport Connecticut broke her shaft while passing City Island. She will be towed to her destination for repairs.

Grocer Kidnapped and Robbed on Highway in Tuxedo Bandits

J Harenstein of 221 Midland Avenue, a grocer at 294 Brewster Street, told Sergeant F Arthur Salmons he was attacked by three men, one in a tuxedo, who robbed him of 235 dollars and checks, blindfolded him, then left him wrapped in a blanket near Trnxie Hill road before he walked to Bridgeport to report the crime.

Alderman Baxter Resigns to Depart for South America

John P. Baxter junior alderman from the Second district resigns effective before February 28. He will leave in two weeks for a two year South American sojourn as Crane company salesman. Henry McLoughlin named potential successor as Baxter recalls a tight prior primary battle with William Cannon and district leader A J Northey had promised Baxter the next nomination. Baxter was elected to fill a vacancy created by Lawrence J. McGough’s promotion to sewage plant superintendent.

Rescued After 38 Days Under Haystack in Colorado

J C Taylor a 28 year old eastern laborer was rescued from beneath a Parker Colorado haystack after 34 days without food and water. He lost 100 pounds from 175 and was severely weak with one foot frozen. Doctors expect recovery. The rescue drew Denver physicians attention.

End of Floyd Collins rescue ends in tragedy at Sand Cave
