Sub-Zero Cold Grips Bridgeport Area

The coldest weather in February hit Bridgeport as the thermometer plunged to two below zero between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday, then climbed to 21 degrees by mid afternoon and settled near 15 degrees by early evening. The reading marks the coldest February day since 1950. The Weather Bureau at Municipal Airport recorded the extreme.

House Looted of Safe Worth 3000 in Stratford

Burglars broke into William Rasmussen’s home at 59 Mercer Street Stratford yesterday between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. and escaped with a small safe containing 3000 dollars in cash and U S Savings Bonds. Detective Peter Roy says the entry was gained by forcing the inside kitchen door. Rasmussen operates a gas station at Broadbridges Avenue and Vought Place and arrived home with his family to find a bedroom and his office ransacked. The safe weighs 120 pounds and measures 18 by 14 inches. a brown bed spread used to carry and wrap the safe was also reported missing.

Firemen Jump Between Blazes Across City
