Shortage of fuel may force shops to close awhile
The city faces fuel shortages with most industries warned to run for two weeks on existing coal supplies except Ridgeport Brass and Connecticut Co. The Crane Co. with two days of coal received shipments to cover over a week. A Meweil & Sons says four boats of coal will arrive before noon, ensuring weeks of supply. The issue is railroad seizures diverting fuel to utilities, delaying relief via rail, while water routes offer hope. A record sheep shearer set a world mark of 2394 animals in nine hours.
