Safecrackers loot two Bridgeport businesses for about 3000
Police reported two safes stolen at Mento's Service Station 1582 Main St and Spring Replacement Co 320 North Ave totaling about 3000. A fourth and fifth Bridgeport safe robbery this year, with other burglaries at two firms and a home on Wood Ave. At Mento's, $1700 in bills, $700 in change and a $300 check were taken.

Sikorsky Strike Vote Tentative at Bridgeport and Stratford
Local 877 of the United Auto Workers will vote next Sunday on strike authorization for Sikorsky Aircraft plants in Bridgeport and Stratford after a company contract offer was rejected at a mass meeting at Stratford High School. About 1,600 unionists approved holding the vote, with a two-thirds yes needed to authorize a strike if no agreement is reached before February 13. Negotiations are set for midweek, and if no deal by February 15 the membership will vote again on the latest offer. The local covers about 4,000 members and Sikorsky employs over 10,900 people.
