Motels Packed as Grid Fans See Packers Giants Clash

Crowds of football fans packed four major motels and gathered at Sears Roebuck in Stratford to watch the Green Bay Packers versus the New York Giants on TV. An estimated 20 000 watched from motels and restaurants along the Connecticut and Berlin turnpikes. The Stratford Motor Inn drew 2 300 diners and viewers, with 300 at Westport New Englander, 1 100 at Danbury New Englander, and 200 at Merritt Parkway Motor Inn. Fans traveled from New Jersey and New York to see the game amid a New York blackout, many motels reporting sold out signs multiple weeks in advance.

Woman Dies in Greenwich House Fire in Upscale Area
