Four Changes in Rules for Football Proposed by Coaches
New York Dec 29 Four important changes in the football playing code for 1924 were recommended by the Football Coaches Association of America after their annual session. They include abolishing the offside penalty at the point of the infraction, restoring kickoffs to the 40 yard line with a maximum four inch kickoff height, assigning roughness watch to linesmen rather than the referee, and eliminating a fumble recovery rule on kicks behind the line of scrimmage unless the ball is recovered beyond the point to be gained. A further recommendation sought elimination of a run after recovery of a fumble. The meeting also named officers for 1924 and paid tribute to two associates who died in the attack on the prior season.
