Asian Flu Spreading Across Nation Reported

Nationwide outbreaks of Asian flu and related respiratory infections are reported in 24 states and the District of Columbia. The mortality rate remains not unusually high, with New York City seeing a slightly higher death rate. Most cases are mild, and 15,000 cases have occurred in north Georgia, mainly around Atlanta.

Winter Storm Pierces Coast but Snow Falls Short

Boys Searched After Ice Skating Trip at Crystal Lake

Police hunted for three boys missing since Thursday morning after going to Middletown's Crystal Lake to ice skate. Francis Scanlon 16 David Bula 11 and James Taylor 10 were not home by nightfall. State divers prepared to search the lake Friday as ice measured about an inch and a half. A thermos with chocolate a blanket and two shoes were found near the lake.

Putney Chapel Damaged by Car

The Putney chapel in Stratford was extensively damaged by a hit and run at 4 20 p m. A nearby resident saw the car strike the northwest corner and leave. Mrs Stella B Lesneski 48 of 525 Chapel street was arrested for evading responsibility and failure to drive in an established lane and released on 100 dollar bond. The car also damaged the chapel front end and carried wood splinters.

US pushes diplomacy to curb Reds using Cambodia sanctuary

The United States launched a multipronged diplomatic effort to curb Communist use of Cambodian territory as a military sanctuary. Fairfield Board Supports Suspension Over Long Hair
