Fire Dept Bars Polish Dolls As Combustible Hazard
New York City Fire Commissioner Robert Lowery ordered a halt to distribution of thousands of imported Polish dolls after inspection of A D Sutton Co offices and three warehouses. Dolls, made of a celluloid like material, ignite rapidly when exposed to flame and were linked to Newark thefts and hospital seizures. The department will notify retailers and contact the Polish maker to stop deliveries, amid reports some dolls arrived from England.
