A Christmas Eve ice storm caused hazardous streets as an auto struck two women crossing Pembroke and Nichols streets. Mary Whelehan, 52, died at Bridgeport Hospital. Julia Whelehan, 45, was seriously injured. Driver John J. Donovan, 316 Nicholas Street, was arrested on a manslaughter charge, released on $1,000 bond.

Two service aviators flying from Quantico to Boston area were forced to land when their De Havilland aircraft failed at 1009 feet due to fog. Lt. W G Manley and Lt. J M Sheehan escaped injury. plane damaged on impact with a stone wall but they planned to stay to repair and proceed later.
