Deer slayings hit Massachusetts record, hunters report
Boston Dec 21 AP reports show the week beginning December 2 yielded the largest deer kill in Massachusetts since the law limited slaughter to one week. 2,252 deer were shot, up from 2,020 in 1924, with Franklin leading at 4236 and Berkshire 966. Adams noted increased farmer damage payments at 15,702.77, up from 5,997, attributing it to tougher enforcement and vigilance rather than rising deer damage.
