In Arlington on December 19 fire damaged a frame building housing an orphan asylum. Nuns helped lead 42 children to safety as firefighters battled the blaze. Property damage estimated at £50,000. shelter provided by local lodges for the night.

Fire burns claim two lives and town wide blaze

A fire swept a rural area destroying houses and a barn. Nicola Micerino of Madison Road Stratford and Paul Priger of Honeyapot Road Stratford were badly burned. Micerino not expected to live while Priger was rushed to hospital after driving an automobile to StVin hospital with injuries. The blaze occurred shortly after Poyock and their party arrived at the scene.

Four Suffer From Exposure Here Cared For By City

Four men found suffering from exposure during the severe cold were treated by city authorities. One victim, James Carmody, 21, was found in an unheated Bridgeport hotel room on Howard Avenue and is in critical condition with cardiac asthma. Weather data showed subfreezing temperatures the prior night. A patrolman earlier located another man in a squalid room warming at Hillside Home, with the others expected to recover.

Boy Coasting Hit By Car Driver Held in Stamford

Stamford December 19 Sperini reports a boy named Michael Mahley aged fifteen coasting on Hill Street collided with a car driven by Joseph J Mingo of Connecticut Avenue South Norwalk. The boy was taken to Stamford Hospital with a fractured pelvis and possible internal injuries. Authorities said the boy’s condition was not good and the driver was held by Stamford police without bail pending further report.
