Police report the suspect confessed to killing a Chicago boy, aged six, in a hay loft after fleeing the scene. He claimed intoxication and ignorance of his actions, and led investigators to his aunt and uncle, amid a long pursuit and questioning about other possible victims.
In Arlington on December 19 fire damaged a frame building housing an orphan asylum. Nuns helped lead 42 children to safety as firefighters battled the blaze. Property damage estimated at £50,000. shelter provided by local lodges for the night.

A fire swept a rural area destroying houses and a barn. Nicola Micerino of Madison Road Stratford and Paul Priger of Honeyapot Road Stratford were badly burned. Stamford December 19 Sperini reports a boy named Michael Mahley aged fifteen coasting on Hill Street collided with a car driven by Joseph J Mingo of Connecticut Avenue South Norwalk. The boy was taken to Stamford Hospital with a fractured pelvis and possible internal injuries. Authorities said the boy’s condition was not good and the driver was held by Stamford police without bail pending further report.
Japan lives in gloom as reports confirm the ailing Emperor’s critical condition at the Imperial Villa. Festivals are halted, theatres sparse, and department stores empty as citizens await an official bulletin. Prayers rise across temples while government operations stall with ministers and officials away at Hakone. (Continued on Page Two)
Washington dispatch reports a physician named Houck suspected in a wife’s disappearance after a bloodstained kimono was found. Police, seeking the missing Mrs Houck, identify a bundle linking to the Houck home and a nightgown and blouse later turned to authorities as potential evidence. A nursemaid, Mary Laherty, is critically injured after an auto crash at Fairfield and Brewster, with driver Newtown McCauly held on a reckless driving charge.
A runaway vehicle caused a crash on the Gaston Post Road Noroton. Howard Weinheimer and John Caroske were injured, while Frank Ho Raymond and the trolley motorman escaped unharmed. The truck struck the trolley car telescoping the end before stopping.
The first skating casualty of the season occurred at Casid Park when Jamies Ca, a 15 year old, was injured after a fall. A Lmageney hospital ambulance transported the youth to Emergency hospital, where he received treatment for a chin wound and contusions.
A Newark resident, Alexander Kaplin of 168 Ridgewood Avenue, was arrested for shouting extra headlines and selling a New York newspaper titled the Evening Inquirer with a banner declaring war news. He was released after promising to appear for a court date.
At 65 Park Avenue, Mrs Robert H Ingersoll fatally shot herself and her lover Wallace M Probasco in a jealousy fueled murder suicide. Police say Probasco, son-in-law of the late Robert G Ingersoll, was badly wounded with three bullets. Mrs Ingersoll died from a heart wound. The scene included Christmas cards and gifts as preparations for Yuletide.
Warren Brothers of Boston and Cuban partners won a contract to build the central highway in Cuba, a project valued at about 64 000 pesos. The company has long been involved in Bridgeport paving efforts, with extensive local work and ties to Cuban contractors for the project.
A man fell on stairs and suffered a broken neck after 18 hours without medical care. Paralyzed progression followed, with emergency crews rushing him to Bridgeport Hospital where surgeons reported extreme critical condition.
