UN warned against approving peacekeeping action
The Soviet Union and France warned the General Assembly against a pending peacekeeping resolution. The 22 nation body postponed a vote on financing peacekeeping operations until today. Soviet Ambassador Fedorenko said the measure violates the U.N. Charter and could spark a new crisis, while French Ambassador Seydoux cautioned it could revive deep divisions among nations. The text also notes the USSR and France lag behind in peacekeeping assessments by over 62 million and 17 million dollars respectively.
