Washington December 15 Sweeping reductions in long distance and toll telephone rates are announced by Postmaster General Burleson. A basic charge of 6 14 mills per mile air line mileage and half the day rate for night service up to midnight plus one fourth the day rate after that hour will take effect January 21. The plan aims to equalize toll and long distance charges nationwide and to support unification of telephone and telegraph wires as future reductions are planned. The night rate is one fourth the day rate from 12:00 to 4:40 am and half the day rate for the evening period.
